About Eric
Eric was born and raised right here in Kendall County. He grew up in Oswego, where he attended Oswego High School, excelling in football and baseball. He was a member of the Oswego Presbyterian Church. After graduating with honors, Eric attended North Central College where he received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Marketing while working full time.
After graduating early from North Central College, Eric was accepted to Northern Illinois University Collage of Law. Once again, Eric graduated with honors and received his law degree. During law school, Eric was actively involved in both the Mock Trial Team and the Moot Court Competition. Throughout law school, Eric worked for the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office as a law clerk and was allowed to practice in the courtroom, handling real criminal cases, including felony offenses, under the direction of a senior attorney.
After being admitted to the Illinois Bar and Federal Bar later that same year, Eric had offers for several higher-paying jobs, but he chose to stay with the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office. Under former State’s Attorney Tim McCann, Eric became the youngest prosecutor in the State’s Attorney’s Office. He quickly worked his way through the ranks and in 2002 become the First Assistant State’s Attorney. In 2006, Eric was sworn in as our elected State’s Attorney. Eric continues to serve Kendall County as our State’s Attorney.

With all the growth and changes coming to our county, Kendall County needs State’s Attorney Eric Weis to continue to be tough on crime, protect our neighborhoods, and to keep drugs off our streets and out of our schools. It takes the proven leadership and experience of Eric Weis to keep our residences safe. Eric will continue to hold criminals accountable for their actions while providing opportunities for non-violent criminals to become productive members of society.
The criminal justice system depends on honesty and integrity to function properly. As our Chief Law Enforcement Officer, Eric Weis will ensure that the decisions made by his office are based on the evidence and the law. Justice will apply to everyone.

Eric’s Experience
On December 1, 2006, Eric Weis was sworn in as State’s Attorney for Kendall County. Since then, Eric has worked to improve the quality and experience of the prosecutors in his office. He has implemented new programs to assist victims of crimes and the public. These include:
* A stronger partnership with the Mutual Ground to assist victims of domestic violence in Kendall County
* A stand-alone Child Advocacy Center in Kendall County
* Created the Kendall County Domestic Violence Response Team to help victims of domestic violence get needed resources and support.
* Instrumental in bringing Problem Solving Courts to Kendall County to address issues such as mental health and substance abuse.
Eric has also worked with law enforcement to strengthen the relationship between the State’s Attorney’s Office and local police agencies. New procedures help to ensure better investigation which result in a higher conviction rates and better results for victims. Free training seminars are provided to law enforcement to ensure successful prosecutions. Eric worked hand in hand with law enforcement to increase the seizing and forfeiting of vehicles used to commit crimes in Kendall County. Eric strives to make the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office a well-run, professional office that the People of Kendall County can always be proud of.
Eric continues to prosecute the tough cases. Over the years, he has constantly maintained a high conviction rate while prosecuting some of the most serious and complex cases. During his career, Eric has been primarily responsible for the prosecution of major felony offenses, including violent crimes, such as:
· Murder
· Reckless Homicide
· Armed Violence
· Home Invasion
· Arson
· Weapons Offenses
· Drug Offenses
· Sexual Assault cases, including those involving children as victims
In addition to prosecuting criminals, Eric also represents Kendall County in civil issues involving Kendall County. His office drafts legal documents, reviews contracts, and provides legal advice to Kendall County Elected Officials and Department Heads, including the County Board. Eric has developed protocols and procedures for the Kendall County Major Crimes Task Force and the Questionable Death Protocol.
Eric is very proud that Kendall County is one of the top counties in the State of Illinois for child support enforcement, collecting record amounts of child support. Eric also ensures that local governmental bodies comply with the Open Meetings Act. This allows the public to be informed as to what their local government is doing. Even with the increased growth in Kendall County, Eric continues to maintain a balanced budget while still providing the needed services to the People of Kendall County.
